Youth Theatre Mask Workshops. Conducted at The Theatre Orangeville Younger Company.
	CLICK ON IMAGES BELOW, TO SEE AN ENLARGEMENT: Twenty seven students aged 10 - 16 years, gained their places in Theatre Orangeville's Younger Company, through auditions. The month long program included workshops given by guest leaders as well as working on a production - this year it was Into the Woods. I had the pleasure of being a guest leader for mask and performance workshops. Each session began by opening the circle and relaxation and focussing exercises. From a provided base, each student created a personal mask, and then sculpted their own character mask. We had time to work with their masks, where the students performed short scenes in small groups, as well as individual performances in their characters. I was thrilled with the way the students took to this work. Their masks did indeed conceal and reveal. Many of them were able to harmonize both their bodies and their minds for convincing and powerful performances. Close window
